The dream of the franchise team of Melbourne did not come true. It seems that they have to wait until the next season for another try. Though they were one of the hot team but Sydney Sixers lifted their 2nd BBL trophy! By defeating Melbourne Stars, Sixers have got the honour.
It is just disappointing fact for the group champion Melbourne Stars. The team secured the knockout round at the beginning, finally could not touch the glory. When they needed the victory most, their players could not fill up the expectation. So, by defeating them, Sydney Sixers lifted their 2nd BBL trophy!
Melbourne Stars played the first qualifier but faced the defeat. It was Syndey Sixers which team beat them both times in the knockout round. Later, Stars played the Challenger round and beating Thunder, they made it to the final.
At the Sydney Cricket Ground, the final of the tournament took place earlier today. It was a day/night match. Stars won the toss and came to field first. Due to the bad weather, the match was reduced to 12 overs. So, Sixers came to bat first. Losing five wickets, they scored 116 runs in 12 overs. Opener Josh Philippe scored the highest 52 runs for Sydney Sixers. Smith scored 21 runs and Jordan Silk added 25 runs so far.
The score was not too big for Melbourne Stars. It was possible. They possessed the top-rated batsmen in their squad. But in the final, they did not help the team much. Top orders and openers failed to make big innings. The destructive batsman Stoinis added 10 runs in the important match. Nick Larkin tried a bit and scored 38 runs but they were not enough. They also played 12 overs but could not chase the score successfully. Losing 6 wickets, Stars scored 97 runs so far.
