It seems the 7th season of Bangladesh Premier League has come to an end. And the most exciting thing is, BPL is going to get a new champion this time. The two teams that have qualified for the finals have not won any BPL title yet. Earlier today, the 2nd qualifier of the tournament took place. And by winning the match, Rajshahi Royals moved to the BPL final!
Yes, for the 2nd time, Rajshahi Royals moved to the BPL final! Earlier, in the year of 2016, they played final for the first time. But, at that time, they had to satisfy with the runners up position.
At first, the franchise team of Rajshahi played the first qualifier. Against Khulna Tigers, they faced the defeat by 27 runs. As one of the two top teams, Rajshahi got the 2nd chance. They played the 2nd qualifier against the Chattogram Challengers. Chattogram Challengers was the winner of the eliminator round. They beat Dhaka Platoon there and moved to the qualifier round.
Earlier today, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium the 2nd qualifier round took place. The match between Challengers and Royals were too competitive. Rajshahi Royals won the toss and came to bowl first.
Ziaur Rahman and Chris Gayle came to bat for Challengers. Ziaur Rahman could not do better but added only 6 runs. If we look at their batting statistics, only three players touched the two figure runs. Gayle scored the highest 60 runs in just 24 balls. He coloured his innings with six 4’s and five 6’s. Losing 9 wickets, Chattogram Challengers scored 164 runs in 20 overs. The captain of the team Mahmudullah scored 33 runs and Asela Gunaratne scored 31 runs so far.
In return, Rajshahi Royals faced the batting collapsed. But in the meantime, Irfan scored 45 runs. Finally, Russell’s destructive innings secured their victory. Losing 8 wickets in 19.2 overs, Rajshahi Royals chased the score.
Now, in the final of BPL, they will face Khulna Tigers once again. The match will take place in next 17th January 2020.
