Malan’s good innings could not save Cape Town Blitz!

The 2nd season of the Mzansi Super League has become so contesting. The group stage is going to end so soon and so, the speculations for the next knockout round have started. As the top team Nelson Mandela would be promoted to the next level. They are holding the top position with the highest 27 points. Their nearest opponent is Paarl Rocks. But earlier today, the team Bay Giants played the 9th round of the group stage and they faced Cape Town Blitz there. Reportedly, team Nelson Mandela found the victory though Cape Town went too close to the glory. Even, Malan’s good innings could not save Cape Town Blitz!

At the venue of Cape Town named Newlands Cricket Ground, earlier today Nelson Mandela Bay Giants faced the franchise team Cape Town Blitz. It was a day/ night match where the home team Blitz won the toss and let the Bay Giants bat first. Came to bat, the top-ranked holder team scored 173 runs in the selected 20 overs by losing 6 wickets. In return, when came to chase, Cape Town Blitz played well. They also played full 20 overs but could not catch them. Their opener Malan played well but Malan’s good innings could not save Cape Town Blitz!

Ben Dunk and Matthew Breetzke opened the innings for Bay Giants against Cape Town Blitz. Just two of them played well against the local team. Ben Dunk played 75 runs innings where another opener Matthew Breetzke added 64 runs. Though they lost six wickets totally but rest players could not touch two figure runs there. In the end, they presented 173 runs in front of the Cape Town Blitz. Pakistani bowler Wahab Riaz took three wickets highest for the home team.

Later, Cape Town Blitz came to chase the score and also they made a destructive start. Their opening partnership between Janneman Malan and De Kock added 85 runs jointly in just 7 overs. At that time, the captain of the team De Kock returned to the dressing room scored 40 runs. Janneman Malan played better than the rest players and added the highest 60 runs in 41 balls. The rest players failed to do their job and so, they lost the match. In 20 overs, the home team scored 162 runs. Cape Town Blitz faced the defeat only for 11 runs so far.
